Your hearing care professional will also go over how to clean and maintain your hearing aid. You will learn how to clean the various parts to keep it working optimally. Remember to ask any questions if there’s anything you don’t understand during your appointment.
PROGRAMMING AND ADJUSTING YOUR HEARING AIDS
Programming your hearing aid is very doable and offers numerous advantages:
- You can adjust it until you are satisfied with the hearing clarity
- You can easily make adjustments if your hearing level changes without relying on others
- You learn something new
When programming your hearing aid, over-amplification (gain) is the main concern. Exposure to loud noises over a long period of time can cause further damage to hearing. It’s best to use the lowest possible gain to protect yourself from possible hearing damage whenever you’re in a new environment.
You should also check to ensure you have the proper hardware (such as your hearing aid, computer, hearing aid programmer, USB cables), software, and manual when tuning your hearing aid. Your manual and software will guide you through the steps to program your hearing aid. Please read and follow the instructions carefully.
